BENGTWEL2 Unit 2: The Good Earth Part 1 During this unit, students will read The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Students will learn background knowledge about Chinese culture, increase vocabulary, learn how to better understand text while reading, and improve essay writing. 0.125 or 1/8th Language Arts 12
BENGTWEL3 Unit 3: The Good Earth Part 2 During this unit, students will read The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Students will learn background knowledge about Chinese culture, increase vocabulary, learn how to better understand text while reading, and improve essay writing. 0.125 or 1/8th Language Arts 12
BENGTWEL4 Unit 4: Short Stories & Poetry During this unit, students will read¬†a short story and study poetry. While studying these pieces, we’ll review literary elements, expand vocabulary, write a poetry explication, and examine how a setting can impact a text. 0.125 or 1/8th Language Arts 12
BENGTWEL5 Unit 5: Things Fall Apart During this unit of English 12, students will venture into African Literature by reading Things Fall Apart. While reading, we will cover reading strategies to improve comprehension. Students will write a final essay analyzing the theme of dignity as presented in the novel. 0.125 or 1/8th Language Arts 12
BENGTWEL6 Unit 6: Middle Eastern Literature Part 1 During this unit, students will choose and read one of three Middle Eastern books. While reading, students will identify and analyze the author’s choice and use of literary elements including chronology, setting, theme, the point of view, etc. 0.125 or 1/8th Language Arts 12
BENGTWEL7 Unit 7: Middle Eastern Literature Part 2 During this unit, students will choose and read one of three Middle Eastern books. While reading, students will identify and analyze the author’s choice and use of literary elements including chronology, setting, theme, point of view, etc. Students will also learn basic MLA Formatting. 0.125 or 1/8th Language Arts 12
BENGTWE08 Unit 8: Frankenstein Frankenstein is a science fiction novel about Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a terrible human being out of a scientific experiment. This novel was written by Mary Shelley in answer to a competition to see who could write the best horror story. Frankenstein is not really the monster but rather the creator of the monster. The novel is written in the form of a series of letters and explores the theme of who deserves happiness. There is a lot of action in this tale of romance, murder, monsters, and punishment. 0.125 or 1/8th  Language Arts 12
